Manchester United have been linked with several defenders lately and the latest name to be linked with them is the Greek centre back from Roma, Kostas Manolas.

Manolas is regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe right now and is a target for the incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

According to the very reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United met with the player’s representatives earlier this month and are keen to complete a transfer soon.

The report states that Roma would consider selling the player for a fee of around 40 million Euros and the Old Trafford outfit are willing to pay up in order to fulfill Mourinho’s wish.

However, the deal is complicated because of a clause in Manolas’ contract which states that Roma will have to pay Olympiakos 50% of the sale if the player joins a new club before September 2016.

Therefore, if a fee can be agreed with Manchester United, Roma might need to loan the player for now in order to avoid paying a major chunk of the sale money to Olympiakos.

Regardless of the fee and complications, Manchester United would be making a fantastic move if they manage to land Manolas. The Roma star is extremely talented and is destined to develop into one of the best defenders in the world.
