Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed striker Robin van Persie will miss the Red Devils’ upcoming league clash against Sunderland, while striker James Wilson is fit to face the Black Cats.

The Dutch international was forced to leave the Liberty Stadium on crutches after the 20-times English champions’ 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City. United face Gus Poyet’s side during the weekend Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Van Persie picked up an ankle injury and he will miss the clash against Sunderland.

“He [Robin] is the only injured player. He has an ankle injury. We have to wait and see how long that shall take,” Van Gaal told United’s official website.

There were rumours that the former Arsenal striker was set to miss the remainder of the season. However, the former Netherlands manager revealed that he is expected to out of action only for one or two weeks

“It’s not heavy but it’s not one or two weeks,” United manager stressed.

Young striker Wilson was suffering from dead leg during United Under 21’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland earlier this week. However, he has declared himself fit and also his compatriot Michael Carrick is also edging towards returning to full fitness after he joined the full training on Thursday.

“He [Michael] is very experienced and he can play in a very important position. But he also needs match rhythm. He trained only one time with us, with the group, so he needs to also play in the second team,” Van Gaal concluded.
