According to reports in the English media, Christian Benteke is set to join Liverpool in the coming days.
The Reds have decided to trigger his buyout clause of £32.5million later today and the player will now hold talks with the club.
Liverpool confirmed the sale of Raheem Sterling earlier this week and were looking to invest the money in a striker. Christian Benteke is thought to be the number one target for Brendan Rodgers since the beginning of the window.
The Aston Villa striker has been one of the best strikers in the league since his move from Genk and will now look to take his career to the next level with Liverpool.
Liverpool initially valued the Belgian at around 20-25million, but weeks of negotiation proved futile as Villa refused to lower their demands. It appears that Liverpool are now in a hurry to complete the deal and will meet his release clause to speed up the process.
According to reports, Manchester United were keen on the Belgian and were prepared to meet his release clause, but the player is keen on a move to Merseyside and the Reds are eager to wrap it up soon.
Benteke will now join the likes of Milner, Ings, Bogdan, Gomez, Firmino and Clyne as a new arrival at Anfield.
Following a dismal season last year, FSG are prepared to back their manager to the hilt and the signing of Benteke and Firmino along with others is a massive vote of confidence from the owners.
