Manchester United legend Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on the club blasting the decision to sack David Moyes, saying the Scot deserved more time and that Vice Chairman Ed Woodward needs to take a hard look at himself.
The 42 year old Irishman also felt that Phil Jones needs to toughen up and that the Red Devils has gone backwards this season. Keane also felt that Woodward needs to have a planned transfer shopping window to build for next season.
“Moyes had one transfer window, and it’s not always down to the manager when players don’t come in. I think Ed Woodward needs to look at himself. He’s got to get deals done. I think he should have been given more time. I was happy with David Moyes. I think Van Gaal is a good choice. Only time will tell. He’s managed big clubs.”
The story comes at the same time after Nemanja Vidic revealed that the players were busy fighting among themselves and that David Moyes wan’t to be blamed. Keane was also severe on Chris Smalling and especially Phil Jones. “Jones needs to toughen up. Every time I see him, he is getting carried off. He’s got to toughen up, he’s playing for Man United.”
“We were told two or three years ago Jones was going to be the new Duncan Edwards, Smalling was this and that…. I’ve watched United live nine, 10 times this year and they have been none of those things.”
Speaking on Ferdinand’s glittering career, Keane felt that he wan’t surprised and the Englishman wasn’t given a chance to say a final goodbye in front of the Old Trafford faithful. “He didn’t have a chance to say goodbye? You can say goodbye on Twitter, can’t you?”
