According to reports from French Media outlet RMC Sport, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has put brakes on Marseille’s inquiries for Mexican striker Javier Hernandez. The report states that the French club had enquired about the 27 year old’s availability recently but were told that ‘Chicarito’ is not for sale.
The decision makes complete sense from Van Gaal’s perspective. With Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie leaving in the summer, the Old Trafford side have been on the lookout for a striker who can lead the line up front. Wayne Rooney has struggled in recent weeks despite his hat trick against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off in midweek.
Thus Hernandez is the only striker apart from Rooney that Van Gaal has in his squad. Recently United pulled out of the race to sign Pedro from Barcelona, the Spaniard who instead joined Chelsea. Hernandez had spent the last season on loan at Real Madrid and his spell at the Bernabeu was nothing short of disappointing scoring 7 goals in 23 games.
Chicarito who came on as a substitute during United’s 4-0 over Brugge endured a nightmare cameo missing a penalty and an open goal. Should United fail to sign a striker by the time the transfer window slams shut, Hernandez is expected to stay at Old Trafford, which will give him a golden opportunity to impress Van Gaal and prove his doubters wrong.
As far as Marseille are concerned, the report states that they are now trying to sign Juventus striker Simone Zaza. The Italian was recently set to complete a loan move to West Ham but Juventus blocked the deal right at the end.
