Manchester United have been linked with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in recent weeks and they now appear to have reached an agreement with the Spanish club.
According to El Chiringuito, the Red Devils’ long pursuit of the 79-cap French international is close to reaching a conclusion.
The 28-year-old will be a free agent next summer and Los Blancos are under pressure to cash in due to their financial situation.
They will not want to lose a player of Varane’s calibre on a free transfer and United are making the most of the opportunity.
SL View: Varane could have Van Dijk-esque impact
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to bring in a quality partner for Harry Maguire and Varane would be a sensational addition.
He is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the world and could have a transformative effect on United’s defence.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as they strive to bridge the gap to reigning champions Manchester City.
United finished second in the Premier League last season and adding Varane and Sancho to their squad would boost their chances of going one better next term.
