Well, its almost 2015 and the rumours are creeping in. According to reports in the Guardian Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has identified Everton right back Seamus Coleman as a January target. The report however claim that the Red Devils need to shell at least £20m to price the Northern Irishman out from the Toffees.
However despite teh reports, it is highly unlikely that the 26 year old will switch loyalties in the uncertain winter transfer market. Moreover, Everton are highly unlikely to sell without finding a proper replacement at a time of the season when they are really struggling. The Blues from Merseyside are currently languishing 12th in the Premier League standings but were expected to challenge for a top four position after their fifth placed finish last season.
From United’s point of view, Coleman would be a terrific signing. He would be a certain upgrade over Rafael and would add stell to the defensive back four. Moreover Coleman is a fantastic athlete with an immense work rate and his ability to barge forward in attacks will come in handy for the Old Trafford side.
Moreover it appears that van Gaal has little faith on Rafael. After the 3-0 over Liverpool, the dutch manager had said,” Rafael is not injured. Last week he was fit but I have to select [on merit”.
However only time shall tell if United go hammer and tongs for Coleman in January or will wait till the summer to make a raid.
