Manchester United defender gives injury update

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has confirmed his injury is not serious after he was stretchered off the field against Manchester City.

Louis van Gaal saw his side suffer to a 1-0 defeat to the Premier League champions during the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Sunday. United lost both their defenders as Chris Smalling was sent off in the first half.

The Red Devils’ other centre-back Rojo was carried off in a stretcher after we was found lying on the ground with pain for his tackle on Argentine national team mate Martin Demichelis.

Earlier it looked the South American defender had sustained a serious injury and Van Gaal confirmed the summer signing had suffered a dislocated shoulder. The Dutchman revealed Rojo will not play against Crystal Palace later this weekend.

“The shoulder is out, so you never know how long that takes. “I have to wait until tomorrow but he shall not play against Crystal Palace,” Van Gaal told Sky Sports.

However, Rojo has played down injury fears and confirmed his injury is not serious on Twitter on Sunday.

“Gracias a todos por los mensajes. Gracias a dios fue solo un mal momento/ thank you all for your messages. thank god it was nothing,” Rojo tweeted.

With Smalling suspended for the next fixture and Van Gaal confirming Rojo will not feature against Palace, United will have to rely on youngsters in the heart of the defence with Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are recovering from injury.
