Manchester United closing in on Serbian star Tosic

Manchester United are edging ever closer to sealing the signing of Partizan Belgrade star Zoran Tosic.

The 21-year old Serbian winger was granted his work permit on Friday, and according to the Telegraph, he’ll fly to Manchester on December 12 to discuss personal terms with his new club ahead of the deal becoming official at the start of the winter transfer window.

Tosic is in the midst of a stellar season for Partizan, having already scored nine goals to help Partizan go top of the Serbian Superliga.

Tosic will have to add some meat to his slender build (the reason for his nickname of ‘Bambi’) when he makes the move to the Premier League, but his ability to play on either flank will give him a chance to carve out a regular place in the United side in the near future. He won’t be counted on to make a big impact immediately, and he could be loaned back to Partizan for the remainder of the season or beyond.

Along with Tosic, United could also tie up his teammate, attacking midfielder Adem Ljajic, who might be even more of a highly-rated prospect than Tosic. Ljajic is only 17, but ‘Little Kaka’ has already become a regular for Partizan this season and has also broken into Serbia’s U-21 side.

United already struck gold in Serbia with Nemanja Vidic, and capturing two of the country’s top young talents could pay big dividends for the club’s future and for the future of Serbian football.
