Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea look set to miss out on signing Colombian playmaker Fredy Guarin in the summer.

Guarin was heavily linked with both the clubs in the January transfer window, but in the end no concrete offers were placed for him and he stayed with Inter Milan.

According to talkSport, the midfielder is set to be handed a lucrative contract which will tie him up till 2017.

The 27-year-old has been in good form this season and has managed 25 league appearances, scoring three goals and bagging five assists as well.

Chelsea had shown an interest in Guarin in the winter transfer window, but with the signing of Nemanja Matic from Benfica, the Londoners probably won’t be looking to further bulk up in the midfield department.

Instead, Jose Mourinho may well be looking to nurture young talents like Marco van Ginkel or Oriol Romeu, who has made a strong impact for Valencia on loan.

Manchester United manager David Moyes will be handed a transfer war chest in the summer, and the Scot is on the look out for at least one new midfielder.

However, should Guarin sign a new deal at Inter, the interest for him will be all but over from both English clubs.
