Manchester United have agreed a deal for Sporting defender Marcos Rojo, subject to medical and personal terms, the club has confirmed.
As a part of the deal winger Nani has joined his former club Sporting on a season long loan, Sporting has confirmed.
The 27-year-old winger joined United in 2007 and has been at the club for eight long years. However, his last two seasons didn’t go according to expectation while it was thought that he doesn’t feature in long term plans of Louis van Gaal.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported this morning that Manchester United will continue to pay his wages during his loan period.
The transfer of Nani to Sporting paves way for Marcos Rojo to join Manchester United for a reported fee in the region of €20m.
Talks between the two clubs were kept on hold for the transfer of Rojo, following a legal dispute between Sporting and Doyen Group, who owns 75% of his economic rights.
However, the stance were softened following Rojo’s public apology. Rojo will now undergo a medical at United.
Nani will get regular game time under his belt at Sporting but his long term career at United will be almost as good as over.
