Man City transfer news

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has talked up his club’s summer transfer target Kevin De Bruyne, whom he hailed as a “phenomenal player”.

The Eastlands club are in hot pursuit of the Belgian attacking midfielder, and have already lodged a second bid in the range of £47m to prize the in-demand De Bruyne to Manchester.

And Sky Blues captain Kompany has expressed his high admiration and heaped praise on his Belgium team-mate, whom he considers to be a “complete” player.

“Let’s put it this way, he definitely wouldn’t make the team weaker. Any team he goes to he will make them stronger,” Kompany was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

“He’s a phenomenal player. A complete player.”

Kompany led Manchester City to a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in their first game of the 2015/16 season, and scored the third goal to seal the win. He will hope the talents of De Bruyne will help his club regain the league title after falling short of Chelsea last time out.

The Citizens have already spent £47m to land England international Raheem Sterling from Liverpool, and are ready to break the bank to bring De Bruyne to Manchester. De Bruyne was one of the most prolific chance creators in the whole of Europe last season, assisting 28 goals and scoring 16 himself.

However, his previous spell in the Premier League did not turn out to be a memorable one, playing just three times for Chelsea in the 2013/14 season before moving to Wolfsburg in January 2014. The 24-year-old will hope to make a mark in English football this time around, should he accept Manchester City’s advances.
