According to ESPN, Manchester United are all set to use David De Gea as a makeweight in a transfer for Gareth Bale.
The Spanish giants have been interested in De Gea all summer and are keen to wrap up the deal before the window slams shut. The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes is in Manchester at the moment, trying to iron out a deal that works for all parties.
Initially after an agreement with the player, Real Madrid failed to convince Manchester United to sell. The English giants asked for club captain, Sergio Ramos in return and Madrid had to back off.
However, now that Sergio Ramos has signed a new deal at the Bernabeu, the Los Blancos are hoping to force De Gea out of Manchester.
The player is yet to play for the United this season and according to Van Gaal, the former Atletico Madrid man has refused to play until his future is sorted.
Having lost their bargaining chip in Sergio Ramos, Manchester United have now turned to the unsettled Gareth Bale. The former Spurs winger has struggled to win over his critics in Spain and has been linked with a move back to England.
According to ESPN, Manchester United are willing to discuss the sale of De Gea, if the Spanish club can include Gareth Bale in a deal.
Rated highly by Florentino Perez and Rafa Benitez, it is unlikely that Bale will be allowed to leave this summer. Further, the player is determined to stay and is reluctant about a Premier League return.
However, United have the resources to make it worth his while financially and with their determination to make a statement signing this summer, it will be interesting to see what the last few days of the window have in store for us.
