Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been linked to a sensational move back to his former side Tottenham Hotspur.
However, his new manager Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out any chance of the Croatian international leaving the La Liga runners-up.
Last season, Modric made 33 league appearances, scoring three goals. He made nearly a third of his appearances from the bench, and endured a season largely of inconsistency and disappointment.
This summer, a number of sides had been rumoured to be potential suitors of the 27-year old. Manchester United’s ongoing pursuit for a creative midfielder has led them to renew interest in Modric – among others.
A part-exchange deal involving Luka Modric and another Real Madrid player including cash was said to have been offered by the Spanish outfit for Tottenham’s player of the year Gareth Bale. Ancelotti himself refuted the rumours, but did admit the side are looking to sign him this summer.
‘It is not true that Luka will leave. All the players are very happy to be here and working well. He’s very important to us. He will play here this season.’
Luka Modric has made no official word revealing he’s keen to leave Real Madrid, and has recently admitted admiration for his potential future club teammate Gareth Bale – citing how the Wales international would ‘fit perfectly’ into the Madrid side.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has been public about his desire to sign a central midfield player this summer, and the club did previously target Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. However their approaches were knocked back by the Catalan giants, and it now appears they will be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.
No official bid has come in for Modric, but the club have made it clear they aren’t looking to sell the midfielder for any price.
