Liverpool yesterday have agreed a deal to sign Mario Balotelli from AC Milan for a reported fee of £16m.
The Italian striker would join on a five-year-deal earning around £110k per week, according to The Times. He is likely to arrive at Merseyside today where he will undergo his medical.
The Italian striker will become ninth major signing of the season for Liverpool, taking the spending spree well over £100m, a record in Liverpool’s history.
However Liverpool might be dragged into one or two more transfers before the window shuts.
The future of Lucas Leiva is under scrutiny for sometime now. The Brazilian midfielder, who was signed by Rafael Benitez became a fan favourite through sheer hard work and persistence, but after going through a series of injuries in the last couple of years, he has been just a shadow of the player what he used to be.
And now, he faces a big competition in the side to play regularly, after Brendan Rodgers signed Emre Can in the summer.
According to reports from Italy, Napoli might be an attractive destination for Lucas, where he would be reunited with his former boss Rafael Benitez.
Lucas said that he would consider the option of leaving Liverpool, should he receive any better offers.
“Right now I can not say anything” Lucas said. “At the moment I’m focused on Liverpool and want to have a great season, and want to return to play with the national team.”
“I will evaluate all the proposals and offer with my advisors. The club will evaluate if they get any interesting offer. But at this moment, my focus is with Liverpool.”
It remains to be seen, whether Brendan Rodgers signs any midfielder before the window shuts, in that case, Lucas might be waving good bye to Liverpool fans.
