Louis van Gaal claims Manchester United star Angel Di Maria has trained very well ahead of his side’s clash against Newcastle United.
The 27-year-old has seen a sudden dip in form in recent times and a poor display during Sunderland tie at Old Trafford saw him being substituted after the break. The Red Devils went on to win the match 2-0, thanks to a brace from Wayne Rooney.
United face Magpies in the mid week away fixture on Wednesday. The former Netherland manager believes the former Real Madrid man had a bad day against the Black Cats and claims the Argentine international has prepared for Newcastle match.
“Every player can have that kind of match – Di Maria is not the only player who has suffered a bad day. He can be the best player in the world in the next match, so I think everything is going well. He trained very well and I don’t think there is any problem,” Van Gaal told in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
“I have already explained that the higher rhythm of the Premier League is one of the most important aspects but he also has to adapt to a new culture, a new environment and that is not always easy.”
Last time United face Newcastle, they won 3-1 at home on Boxing Day. The Dutchman was delighted with his side’s performance against the Tyneside club and Van Gaal will be looking for a similar performance, this time at St James’ Park
“I remember the fantastic goal Wayne Rooney made after a fantastic counter. I have seen it again, as always before a match, and I think we played well. The win was well deserved: we could have scored more, but it is always like that,” United manager said about their victory over Newcastle earlier in the season.
