Respected journalist Guillem Balague wrote on AS yesterday that Manchester United have offered / would be willing to offer €153m (certainly would be a record transfer for United should the deal go through) for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale. He claims that Louis van Gaal has asked the United hierarchy to sanction him the money for Bale, who has a release clause of around €1bn.
These sort of reports were mainly carried on a regular basis by UK tabloids. Knowing the low credibility of tabloid reports, few took it seriously, until yesterday.
Without going into this hypothetical questions – whether Real Madrid would sell him, whether Bale would leave, whether Manchester United need him at all, whether Manchester United will pay this ridiculous sum on one single player – because, these are all endless conjectures – one thing is certain here, according to Balague, that United do have an interest in Bale.
Bale’s agent has denied in the past that the Wales international could leave the club and the player himself has stated that he is happy in Madrid, but we have seen funnier things have happened during any transfer window in the past.
When Louis van Gaal, the Manchester United manager was quizzed on this topic, he was swift to avoid getting into any controversy, but in doing do, he has sparked fresh new speculations only. Usually when there is no truth in any transfer rumour, managers usually clarify that publicly. Likewise, if there is any interest or a possible transfer, they clarify as well – we have seen Van Gaal to do it before.
“This is something I will not argue with you. I discuss these things with my CEO (Ed Woodward), not with the media,” he said as quoted by AS.
May be media are speculating too much, but as I said transfer market are very unpredictable, so let’s wait and see, how it unfolds from here on.
