Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has joined Hull City on loan for the rest of this season.
The move has been confirmed by Hull City and Liverpool on their official websites.
The 22 year old Serbian failed to make his mark at Sporting during the first half of the season and the Portuguese outfit have decided to terminate his loan spell.
The Reds signed Markovic after a breakout season with Benfica in 2014, but the young winger failed to impress Brendan Rodgers or Jurgen Klopp. Markovic was then loaned out after making 34 appearances for the Merseyside giants.
The Serbian was regarded as a world-class talent when he signed for Liverpool, but his career has gone downhill since then and the player will be hoping to get it back on track with Hull City now. It is important to remember that the current Hull manager Marco Silva was managing Estoril in Portugal during Markovic’s splendid season with Benfica. It could be the case that Silva rates the player highly and is confident of bringing the best out of him.
It is evident that the attacking player is not a part of Klopp’s plans. The fact that Liverpool chose to send him to Hull despite needing a winger right now, speaks volumes about Klopp’s faith in the player. The Reds have crying out for a pacy wide player ever since Mane left with Senegal for AFCON.
Markovic spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce and failed to make most of that spell too. He made 14 appearances for Sporting this season and scored twice during that period.
Liverpool will be looking to sell the player at the end of this season. The Reds will hope to recoup most of the £20m they paid for him a few years ago.
