The summer transfer window officially gets underway from 1st July, that is from today. Liverpool have done some smart business already as Brendan Rodgers keen to reshape his squad for the new season.

The Merseyside giants have already completed deals for six players, including the high profile signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim. Furthermore, the Reds are expected confirm the deal for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne within the next few days.

The biggest challenge for Liverpool now is to remove the unwanted players at the club, and get the maximum deal out of any sale. Anyway, mass exodus is expected at Anfield this summer, and it will reduce the wage bill considerably, which in turn will make room for more arrivals.

In the past one month, several Liverpool players, like Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Lucas Leiva, have been linked with a move away from Anfield. While these are mainly media driven rumours, one player is almost certain to leave the club – Sebastian Coates.

According to a report from The Times, Coates will join Sunderland permanently (he impressed last season on loan) within next 24 hours. Liverpool have agreed a £4m deal with Sunderland, and Coates will soon move to Wearside to start his new career with the Black Cats.

Coates joined Liverpool four years ago from Nacional. The 24-year-old failed to live up to the expectations and has made only 12 appearances for the club. He is surplus to requirement in Brendan Rodgers’s team, and the club felt it best to sell him permanently. This will suit all parties involved, and especially Coates, who will get regular games at his new club.
