According to reports from various Italian sources, Liverpool right back Glen Johnson could make a January transfer move to AS Roma. The trusted and the reliable TMW have cited well known journalist Alfredo Pedulla claiming that Roma have been keeping tabs on the 30 year old defender.
Pedulla was quoted saying, “Roma have been paying attention to Glen Johnson, who can also play as left back and not just on the right. The Gilalorossi have been sending indirect for a month and a half and will we see what shapes up with Liverpool in January.”
The player had earlier openly stated that he hasn’t been offered a new contract, even though his present agreement expires at the end of the season. Moreover, we had also reported that Roma could be the next possible destination for Johnson as he wants a new experience away from Merseyside.
Johnson however might ask for a salary of €4m which could make matters a bit complicated but the Italian side could definitely acquire his services if he lowers his demands for a nominal transfer fee in January. Elsewhere, the Roma Press website have cited ‘an Emglish source’ claiming that representatives from Roma will meet with Johnson’s entourage in the next few days.
A reputed Twitter handle has however cited that Johnson has agreed a move in principle to join Roma in January. However, we are yet to verify the credibility of the statement.

My Verdict: Its highly unlikely that Liverpool will offer a contract extension but will only let go the player if they find a possible replacement. Javier Manquillo is on a two year loan deal from Atletico Madrid while youngster Andre Wisdom is on loan away to West Brom. Moreover, Jon Flanagan who impressed lat season, has been on the sidelines this season. Liverpool also sold right back Martin Kelly in the summer to Crystal Palace.
