Real Madrid midfielder Isco is reportedly a summer transfer target for Liverpool, who are looking to crank up their search for Steven Gerrard’s long-term replacement.
Rumours of a potential Liverpool move for the Spaniard has reached the well-trained ears of both TuttoMercatoWeb and The Guardian, with both relaying that the 21-year-old is being lined up as Gerrard’s potential successor.
Isco moved to the Bernabeu only last summer, for a whopping €30m from fellow La Liga side Malaga, yet he has not yet managed to consolidate a regular first team place in the Spanish capital, with former Tottenham midfield man Luka Modric currently preferred by Carlo Ancelotti.
The youngster barely plays the 90 minutes for Real, such is the phenomenal squad at Ancelotti’s disposal, but the Italian has always maintained that he wants to hang on to the midfielder, despite not affording a consistent run in the team.
Isco came on and scored against Elche last week, and his boss was quick to praise his contribution,
“Isco can play in the centre of midfield or as a false nine. He was great today. I am positive that he can play in that position, which requires more sacrifice. He is a quality player and can do a good job there,” said Ancelotti.
Liverpool may find it tough to peel Isco away from Real so soon into his Los Blancos career, and he would certainly cost upwards of £30m.
What do you think? Would Isco be a shrewd acquisition? Let me know in the comments below…
