Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has ruled out a permanent move to Sunderland insisting he wants to return to Anfield, after the end of the season.
The 22-year-old was signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2012 for a reported fee of £10m, but having failed to make a bright impression last season (injury played a huge part too), he was loaned to Sunderland to get regular games.
The Italian striker is already a hit on Wearside and has become fans’ favourite after putting impressive displays and scoring few important goals for the Black Cats. He said as quoted in The Times:
“It would be nice to go back there as a Premier League player and to have shown them that, even in a hard situation, I can do well.
“I’ve achieved one of my objectives here at Sunderland of playing every week, but to play for big teams like Liverpool, you don’t just need to perform well.
“As a striker you need to score goals. You can perform well, but at the end of the season, people count your goals.
“I needed to prove to myself first that I can play here, because I’ve never had a long spell playing in England, but now I’m getting a long run of games.”
Borini is determined to show the Liverpool fans that he is not a flop and wants to end the season on a high helping Gustavo Poyet’s side to Barclays Premier League safety and Capital One Cup final success.
The former Roma player was brought in by Paolo Di Canio at the start of the season, but he has flourished under Poyet and his impressive performances have helped Sunderland to climb off the bottom of the table. Borini earned cult-status with the Sunderland fans after he scored the winner in October’s Wear-Tyne derby against Newcastle United.
