Steven Gerrard - Liverpool FC

According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that club captain Steven Gerrard has the right to listen to transfer offers from other clubs. Rodgers believes that the club captain has ‘earned his right’ to discuss his future with any club that he wishes.

The recent developments throws huge doubt on Gerrard’s future at Anfield. A likely separation is unthinkable for the Anfield faithful but the 34 year old Gerrard who was offered a new deal by his club in November has been delaying his decision whether or not to end his 25 year old legacy at Liverpool.

Gerrard is also free to sign a pre-contract agreement if there is an offer tabled by any club that he would like to join. Speaking on the situation Rodgers said, “I have got a great relationship and communication with Steven so we understand exactly the position.”

“I think he has earned that respect if he does [talk to anyone]. He’s a wonderful player and a wonderful servant to this football club. From my time here he has been brilliant for me. I have just got to manage his games.”

The report states that MLS side New York Red Bulls are interested in Gerrard while a host of other European giants offer Champions Football could also tempt him to switch loyalties in the summer. However Gerrard is in line to face Leicester City at Anfield on new year’s day.

Not a great start to the year for Liverpool fans…
