Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has signed a new long-term contract and put the recent speculations surrounding his future to bed.
The England international had one year left on his previous contract and the latest deal will see him stay at Anfield for a long time. The length of the contract has not been specified.
A statement on Liverpool’s official website read, “Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Jordan Henderson has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The 24-year-old has committed his future to the Reds by penning the deal at Melwood today.”

The report from the Guardian claims the 24-year-old has signed a new five-year deal, which will see him earn around £100,000-a-week. Liverpool superstar Steven Gerrard will leave the club once his contract expires at the end of the season.
Henderson will replace Gerrard as Liverpool captain as Brendan Rodgers is looking to build the team around the midfielder. The contract saga went on for a few months before the midfielder committed his future to the Merseyside club.
The former Sunderland man has expressed his delight and claims he is “over the moon” after signing a new deal with Liverpool.
“I’m over the moon that it’s finally done,” Henderson said after penning down a new deal.
“There has been talk about it for a while now. It’s brilliant news for me to commit my future to this football club – I really feel that it’s a good time for us to look forward to the future, with the squad we’ve got, the manager, the size of the club and the fans we’ve got. I really think, over the next few years, we can challenge and start winning trophies.”
“That’s the next phase; we’ve improved massively over the last few years, and I think the next phase for us is to start challenging for titles and trophies as well,” he added.
Henderson now joins Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge as the key players to sign a new deal. The next two players on Rodgers’ list will defender Martin Skrtel and winger Raheem Sterling.
Sterling has admitted that any decision over his future will be taken at the end of the season and he has two years left on his contract. Meanwhile, Skrtel has revealed that he has no plans to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
