Liverpool could be one of the busiest clubs next summer, should they qualify for Champions League spot this season. That doesn’t mean if they do not qualify this season, they won’t spend next season, but with Champions League money coming in, there could be few ins and outs.
Some of the players could come under scrutiny like say Iago Aspas while The Times recently speculated the future of vice-captain Daniel Agger as well.
Likewise, Pepe Reina’s future is almost sealed as well. The Spaniard is currently away on loan to Napoli but manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Reina has no future at Anfield.
He said in the Liverpool Echo: “He’s already written his letter, hasn’t he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn’t he?
“I was surprised at the letter – when you are a loan player I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move.
“He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with (Rafa Benitez) and thanked him for his time for Liverpool. So, for me, it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”
While Reina’s future at Anfield is more than over, doubts persist with the future of Daniel Agger. The Denmark defender was substituted against Swansea and was heavily criticised by his manager.
Rodgers insisted that he would have given the same treatment to anyone in his team, based on performance but praised his efforts on training before claiming that the Danish star will start against Southampton on Saturday.
