Liverpool goal keeper Pepe Reina, who is currently plying his trade in Italy with Napoli, claims that he will not continue his career with the Anfield-club, after he finishes his loan period.
Reina is due to return to Anfield when his season-long loan spell with Napoli ends in June. The Spaniard, who has another two years left on his six-year £80,000-a-week Liverpool contract, said as quoted in The Mirror: “I’m very happy here and my family’s happy too.
“I’ll be here right to the end, but not even I know what will happen after. I’m here now, but I’ve got to return to Liverpool, although it’s unlikely I’ll stay there.
“Benitez was the most important figure in me arriving here. He convinced me to join this ambitious project at a great club.
“Obviously I also wanted to get to know a different league, while it was Liverpool who took the first step by not wanting me anymore because they were placing their faith in a younger goalkeeper.”
Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet in the summer from Sunderland and the young Belgian has done exceptionally well in his first season at the Anfield club.
Reina would be looking to either extend his stay at the Naples or could join elsewhere, with Barcelona thought to be interested in him.
Napoli are 13 points adrift of leaders Juventus, but Reina is confident of claiming some silverware this season. With Reina’s future still shrouded in mist, Napoli are actively seeking to land another goal keeper and reportedly interested in Hannover’s Ron-Robert Zieler.
