Liverpool could miss out on yet another high profile target, Yevhen Konoplyanka, after Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi insisted that a move to Tottenham would be ideal for the in-demand winger.
The Dnipro owner also insisted that the club has been in contact with the North London club over a deal for Konoplyanka.
Liverpool were close to signing the 24-year-old in the January transfer window, but the deal collapsed in the final hours of the transfer deadline day, despite the player undergoing a medical.
Liverpool are expected to go for him again in the summer, but as it stands, Spurs are likely to win the race for the highly rated Ukrainian winger.
“I have contact with the Tottenham president,” he said as reported by Goal.com. “I am talking with him.
“He is interested in Konoplyanka. We are in the stage of negotiations and are perhaps close to signing a contract if Yevhen agrees.
“I would choose Tottenham – London – not Liverpool. There are matches only once or twice a week, and at other times he will still need somewhere to live. I believe London life is preferable to Liverpool.”
Liverpool had been linked with several top players this season but the lack of Champions League proved fatal to them in the end.
Mohamed Salah, Willian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were linked with the Reds, but all of them ended up elsewhere.
However, the scenario could be different in the summer as Liverpool are expected to qualify for the Champions League next season, while Spurs’ chances very slim. In that case, Konoplyanka might be tempted to join a Champions League side rather than coming to ‘enjoy life in London’.
