The news coming from the Spanish press about Liverpool’s top target Alberto Moreno is hardly encouraging. The Reds’ interest in the highly rated Spaniard is gradually cooling down, with the deal hitting a new snag in the last few days.
The situation has changed drastically and the pervading silence emanating from both camps doesn’t add enough conviction for the deal to go through either.
On 9th June we reported that Moreno was flying to Liverpool with his agent-dad to complete his move to Merseyside. Sevilla based newspaper Estadio Deportivo claimed a €20m deal has been agreed and all formal works will be completed at the earliest.
Two days later, the same publication reports the deal has been delayed as Liverpool are refusing to pay extra €2m for Moreno. While Liverpool had agreed to meet the principle amount, it is the bonus clauses that gave birth to conflict. Sevilla want a lot of the transfer fee to be paid in advance but Liverpool are unsure whether they’re paying over the odds for Moreno and are taking time to come to any definite conclusion.
The Sevilla camp were optimistic that the deal will eventually go through, as Liverpool are in need of a quality left-back in the summer. Now Estadio Deportivo reports today that Liverpool have asked for a second opinion from third parties regarding Moreno’s market value. Liverpool see Moreno as a highly talented young player with great potential, but harbours concern over his excessive price tag.
Moreno has shown no desire to force through a move while Sevilla may not need to sell him, unless they get a better offer. In such a scenario, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool comply with the demands of Sevilla or drop their interest and move for other targets elsewhere.
