Serie A club Udinese’s highly rated young midfielder Piotr Zielinski has been linked with a move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp identifying him as one of his key midfield targets this summer.

The Polish midfielder is currently on loan with Serie A club Empoli, where he has scored four goals and laid on further four assists in his 33 appearances for the Florence club.

Zielinski is an attacking type midfielder. He loves to play short passes and is confident enough of taking shots from distance. Blessed with great technical abilities – rarely you find a central midfielder to dribble with such elan – he averages 2.5 dribbles per game, more than any Liverpool attacking players.

Liverpool have been monitoring his progress closely for sometime now and have decided to step up the interest with a concrete offer. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Nicolo Schira, Liverpool have tabled in a £11.9m bid for the 21-year-old midfielder.

The high opening bid only suggests that Liverpool rate the youngster very highly. The Reds have been in contact with the Serie A outfit in recent weeks, with Udinese sporting director Cristiano Giaretta confirming an offer from the Merseyside club.

“There is interest from Liverpool and it is concrete interest,” he said. “He is doing very well and has the eyes of the Premier League on him.”

The player himself has added fuel to the speculative fire by claiming he had been contacted by Liverpool and had spoken with the Reds manager.

“There is a lot of truth in rumours about Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is interested in me, we had some talks,” he told Polish outlet Sportowe Fakty.

Liverpool have already added Marko Grujic to their midfield roster for 2016/17 but there could be a few more additions to the squad in the coming months. The Reds should move quickly and secure the deal for Zielinski, as Serie A giants Napoli are lurking around for his signature as well.
