Swansea City have made an approach for Liverpool’s winger Raheem Sterling and are hoping that the Reds would allow the youngster on loan, if they sign Mohamed Salah from FC Basle in the January transfer window.

The Reds are heavily linked with a move for Salah and if the reports are to be believed, the Egyptian play-maker could become the first signing of January for the Reds. The 21-year-old play-maker has scored 17 times in 26 appearances for his country and caught the eye-balls of top clubs this season with his virtuoso performances against Chelsea in the Champions League this season.

The Times reporter Gary Jacob reports that Swansea and Newcastle United are keen interested in signing Sterling, who has started nine league matches and made six appearances as a sub for Liverpool this season.

Should Liverpool sell Sterling, even if they sign Salah?

I think that will a ridiculous idea. There is no hurry for the youngster to play each and every game at this stage. His career is shaping up steadily at Anfield and most importantly, he is getting regular games at the club. For the first time in years, Liverpool are actually in the hunt for top four or even title race, and Brendan Rodgers will need each and every member of the squad to contribute.

In that situation, Sterling could be an important player from the bench as well. Staying with the team and gaining experience of a title-race would do a world of good for him than plying trade elsewhere.
