Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Germany winger Julian Draxler this summer. Arsenal and Manchester United are the other two Premier League clubs vying for his signature.
Jose Mourinho, the new Manchester United manager, is thought to be one of his keen admirers while reports in English press claimed last month that the Red Devils had lodged an opening £30m bid for the Wolfsburg star.
Draxler only joined Wolfsburg last summer for a reported fee of £25.2m but reports from France suggest a host of European clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus have joined Manchester United in the race to sign the versatile winger, who would cost around £50m.
The 22-year-old has had a mixed campaign for the Bundesliga side. He was tasked with replacing the creative output of Kevin De Bruyne but managed only five goals and as many assists from 21 Bundesliga games.
Draxler, however, has put in some impressive performances for Germany at the ongoing UEFA European Championship. His performance in the 3-0 victory over Slovakia in the round of 16 was particularly impressive. Germany face France in the Euro 2016 semi-final where Draxler is expected to take part and play a major role.
Klopp is well aware of Draxler’s talent having seen his quality first hand during his time in Germany. He is a gifted player with great dribbling skills and can play multiple positions across the front line.
Having said that, Liverpool are choc-a-bloc with attacking midfielders and investment is needed elsewhere. Draxler is an exciting talent when on form but it is highly likely Liverpool would pay anywhere near £50m for him, especially after signing Sadio Mane, another attacking midfielder, last month.
