According to reports from Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Liverpool are in talks with Inter Milan for the signing of young Croatian play-maker Mateo Kovacic. The report states that there was a meeting between Liverpool executives and Inter Sporting director Piero Aid and Kovacic at Palazzo Parigi hotel in the Corso Como area in Milan.

However, the report doesn’t claim if the Reds have made a bid for the player but Inter have made it clear they are unwilling to sell for anything less than €30m. The Nerrazzurri though could sell the Croatian to raise funds as manager Roberto Mancini has eyed Manchester City’s Yaya Toure as his prime summer transfer target. The San Siro side however are aware of the Financial Fair Play regulations and don’t want UEFA to impose any sort of regulations on the club.

Yesterday there were claims by Gazzetta Dello Sport that Liverpool bid €18m for the midfielder after the Merseysiders’ first offer of €10m was turned down by Inter.

Kovacic has a contract with Inter till 2019 and he earns a reported salary of €2.5m per season at the club. The player is adept at playing in the number ten role just in the hole behind the striker and his natural dribbling ability helps him take on defenders. He will no doubt be an excellent acquisition for the Reds and could make the playmaking role his role playing beside Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling for the Anfield side. Moreover, kovacic can also drop deep and play the regista or the Pirlo role as they call it in Italy.
