Liverpool are leading the race to sign Hoffenheim sensation Roberto Firmino. According to Brazilian news source Globe Esporte, Liverpool are firm favourites to sign the Brazilian forward and the Reds are close to an agreement with the German club.
As per the report, the deal won’t be done for less than €25m, while Firmino will be offered a long term five year contract at Anfield. The negotiation between both the clubs are going well and the deal merely hinges on Firmino’s approval.
Premier League clubs Manchester United and Manchester City were also thought to be interested in the player. Early this week, The Times journalist Tony Barrett reported that Liverpool were considering making a formal approach for the player. It seems the Reds now have stolen a march on their rivals.
The 23-year-old has been one of the stand out players in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons. His agent recently said that the player wants to play in the Premier League which should make things easier for all parties involved, and especially for Liverpool to persuade him and join the iconic club.
There are every possibilities that Liverpool might sell Raheem Sterling to Manchester City in the summer. And should that deal take place, Firmino could be an ideal replacement. Barrett however claimed that any move for Firmino would not be dependant on Sterling’s departure.
Firmino would be an excellent signing for the Reds – he is versatile and the right profile of player who can help Liverpool get into the top four next season.
