The transfer window may be over, but Liverpool will have a high-profile addition to the squad come October. According to Guillem Balague on Spanish website AS, three-time Champions League-winning goalkeeper Victor Valdes is close to agreeing a move to Anfield.
The Spaniard, who is currently a free agent after leaving Barcelona following the expiration of his contract in the summer, is said to be a big fan of Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers. His agent, Gines Carvajal, has said that he expects Valdes to be playing for a ‘big club’ before Christmas, and under the current circumstances, that club looks most likely to be Liverpool.
The Reds have been looking to sign a replacement for Pepe Reina ever since the Spaniard left for Bayern Munich, and were said to be interested in signing Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero. But the two clubs failed to reach an agreement over the Argentine and no deal was closed.
Valdes will bring a wealth of experience to Liverpool. The 32 year-old won 6 La Liga titles along with his 3 Champions Leagues in an incredibly illustrious 12-year stint at the Nou Camp. A Catalonian by birth and a product of the La Masia academy at Barcelona, he was a regular in the all-conquering team of the 2008/09 season.
