Reports from Guardian have suggested that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has agreed a contract extension which will keep him at the club till 2018.

Brendan Rodgers

The 41 year old Northern Irishman took charge of the Reds in 2012 when owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) decided to put their faith in a relatively young manager after club legend and fan favourite Kenny Dalglish was sacked.

After guiding Liverpool to a seventh placed finish last season, Rodgers has made Liverpool a dominant force again with the Reds fighting for the League title this season. However the Reds have dropped points in their last two games against Chelsea and Crystal Palace, which puts Manchester City as firm favourites to lift the Premier League title.

Rodgers however hasn’t given up on yet another twist in what has been an unfathomable Premier League season.

“To be the club that is top of the league by one point with one week to go, and you never know what might happen, has taken a huge effort. The only thing I will promise is that while I am here we’ll fight for our lives. Our season doesn’t finish until after Newcastle.”

The Reds’ main objective was to secure Champions League football and with Rodgers successfully earning a European spot next season, a contract extension is surely imminent.
