Yehven Konoplyanka today confirmed that Brendan Rodgers personally contacted him in January, and that he is ‘a Liverpool fan’ in the Premier League title race.
After failing to make a January move to Premier League leaders Liverpool, who beat rivals Manchester City in dramatic fashion on Sunday, Konoplyanka has revealed that he spoke to Rodgers, and that the interest was serious,
“I got to know Brendan Rodgers, we spoke a bit, about each other, got to know each other. The interest from Liverpool was very much serious.”
“It (interest) was serious. But now I’m thinking of it only as a dream, because we (Dnirpo) are challenging for league.”
Dnpro trail Ukrainian league leaders Shakhtar Donetsk on goal difference after their 1-0 win over Metalurh Zaporizhya on Saturday, and while Konoplyanka is fully focused on his own team’s title race, he is also rooting for Liverpool in the Premier League equivalent.
“I’m supporting them. I’m going to support Liverpool.”
Earlier this month, the 24-year-old’s agent, James Lippett, sparked fresh rumors after tweeting he is heading to Liverpool.

Konoplyanka is fast, skilful and agile; is also very confident at running at opposing full-backs, and loves shooting from distance. Despite Liverpool’s impressive goal-scoring exploits this season, where they have scored a whopping 93 goals so far, Rodgers will be looking add more attacking options to his squad in the summer, with the Reds returning to the Champions league next season.
