Serie A side Lazio are reportedly interested in Liverpool forward Fabio Borini.
The 22-year old joined the Merseyside outfit from Roma last summer, but has since failed to impress. Borini made 13 Premier League appearances in his debut season, but only scored once.
A number of European sides have approached Liverpool about his services this summer, and Lazio are among the favourites to procure his signature.
‘I can confirm that Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has always been a fan of Fabio, but at this moment in time he only has Liverpool in his mind.’ – Borini’s agent.
There has been no word from the Liverpool camp regarding the future of the Italian international, but the side are overstocked on strikers and may consider offers for the right price. They value the striker at £8M, which would see them taking a £4M hit on what they’d paid only 12 months ago.
Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic is said to be keen on the 22-year old as he looks to bolster his attack for next season. Whether the side are interested in a permanent or loan deal remains to be seen.
Borini has only represented Italy on one occasion, and will have an eye on the 2014 World Cup at the end of next season. He’s admitted his form for Liverpool has been below par and is eager to change it.
With Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, and Iago Aspas currently competing in the side for the attacking places, Borini is met with stiff competition.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has made no official word about the Italian’s future, but a loan enquiry will spare a headache as Rodgers is keen to hold on to him, but cannot promise him a starting place next season. His future with the club is expected to be resolved in the next week, as the two parties undergo talks.
