Liverpool host Premier League leaders Leicester City on Boxing Day and their manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed defender Martin Skrtel and midfielder James Milner are set to miss the clash against the Foxes.

The Slovakian international limped off before half time in his side’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Watford, while the former Manchester City midfielder suffered an injury during training last week.

Dejan Lovren sustained a knee injury against West Bromwich Albion and the former Borussia Dortmund boss confirmed he has returned to training for the tie against Leicester. Adam Bogdan started in the absence of Simon Mignolet and Klopp admitted the Belgian could be in contention for the weekend clash.

“Martin Skrtel is not too good. It’s a hamstring, he needs time but we don’t know how long. Dejan Lovren is back in training and trained the last two days in a row so he is available for tomorrow. Mignolet is training but Milner has no chance. We have to wait one-two weeks,” Klopp said.

In addition to this, the Reds manager also confirmed teenage midfielder Jordan Rossiter has suffered a hamstring injury and he becomes the latest player to join the injury list at Anfield.

Earlier reports suggested Skrtel is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, the defender confirmed he will be out of action for six weeks.

Mamadou Sakho recently returned from injury and should Lovren fail to make it to the playing XI against Leicester, then Klopp has to turn his attention to Kolo Toure as he is the only other fit defender available.

The Merseyside club will play seven matches in January, including the two legs of the Capital One Cup semi-final and the FA Cup match against Exeter City. Liverpool and their German manager will be hoping that his key injured players can return to action quickly as they prepare for a busy schedule next month.
