AS Roma have been handed a massive boost as their star midfielder Kevin Strootman has started recovering from injury and he is just weeks away from returning to the first team.
The 24-year-old injured his knee during his side’s league clash against Napoli earlier in March and since then he has been on the sidelines. The Dutch international even missed out of the 2014 World Cup after damaging his knee.
According to Corrieredellosport.it, Roma star could be fit enough to face Torino early next month. Earlier it was believed that Strootman will make his return during the league match against Atalanta on November 22.
However, the Dutch midfielder’s has spent most of his time in a pool, sunbed and gym to regain full fitness.
Despite the fact that Strootman is yet to play even a single minute this season, he has already been linked with a move to Manchester United after the 20-times English champions appointed Louis van Gaal as David Moyes’ successor.
According the reports, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is keen on bringing his compatriot to Old Trafford in January. Strootman’s recovery could come as a welcome boost for the Premier League giants, who are ready to acquire his services.
With regular playing time in December, it will help him regain his fitness and by the time the transfer window open, he could get into United’s first team if and only if they sign him in the mid-season transfer window.
However, any move from United to lure Strootman join Roma will not be an easy task after the Serie A outfit revealed the midfielder will not be allowed to leave in January.
“It is just not happening. ‘I have told the papers they should stop wasting paper. We don’t have any interest in selling Kevin,” Roma owner James Pallotta said.
“As businesspeople, when people call and say ”we want your player”, you are going to listen them. You have to do that.”
“hat doesn’t mean you are going to make a decision that, £75million, bang, you hit the bid. That is not the way it is going to work with us. For others maybe. Our view is we want to put a great team out there; our goal is stability,” he added.
