Borussia Dortmund have confirmed their manager Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of this season after seven years of service.
The Bundesliga outfit have endured a poor run in all competitions and their form in the league have been a matter of worry. They were knocked out by Juventus in the first knockout round of the Champions League.
Earlier reports suggested that Klopp will leave Dortmund and take a sabbatical for a year. However, the 47-year-old admitted that he is not tired and will be back coaching another team new season.
“It’s not that I’m tired, I’ve not had contact with another club but don’t plan to take a sabbatical,” Klopp said in a press conference.
“I always said in that moment where I believe I am not the perfect coach anymore for this extraordinary club I will say so. I really think the decision is the right one. This club deserves to be coached from the 100% right manager.”
“I chose this time to announce it because in the last few years some player decisions were made late and there was no time to react,” he added.
He was tipped to be the favourite to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. However, the Telegraph claims the Frenchman will still be at the Emirates until the end of his current deal, and it is unlikely to see Wenger leaving Arsenal on anything other than his own terms.
Meanwhile, a move to Manchester City could be on the cards as the Premier League champions have endured a poor run in recent times under Manuel Pellegrini. They have won just one of their last eight away matches and the Chilean manager’s future at the Etihad is uncertain.
City could sack the former Real Madrid manager in the summer and bring Klopp for next season.
