Jorge Mendes, Jose Mourinho’s agent, has said that Manchester United have not made an official offer to the former Chelsea manager to take over at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has recently said, through a statement published by his representative agency, that he doesn’t intend to take a break from football and is keen to get back into management quickly.
English media have speculated since last Thursday that Manchester United are planning to appoint Mourinho as their next manager. The results have been disappointing in recent months under Louis van Gaal, and several senior players and supporters in general have ben frustrated with the United’s playing style under the manager.
Mendes, however, has quashed such rumours saying there has not been any agreement with Manchester United at the moment.
He told Globoesporte, via Sky Sports: “There is nothing. We don’t know what will happen in the future, but now there is no agreement. There isn’t an official proposal either, that’s not true.”
Following United’s home defeat against Norwich last Saturday – their sixth consecutive game without a win in all competitions – the Red Devils have dropped out of top four in the English Premier League table.
Van Gaal himself has insisted that his job will come under threat if the results do not improve at the earliest.
United’s board were thought to have held a meeting on Tuesday in London but reports suggest Van Gaal’s future wasn’t discussed in the gathering as commercial matters topped the agenda.
