Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is set to sign a new three year contract with the club.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that a deal has been agreed and it should be made official later today.

Klopp has also revealed that he was involved in the process and had to make a decision on whether to offer the full back a new deal or not.

Flanagan’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and it seems that Klopp is unwilling to let go of the young full back just yet. Since his return from injury, Flanagan has shown tremendous determination and dedication.

The young scouser will be a great utility option for Liverpool and Klopp going forward. The defensive full back can play as a left back or a right back and will be a much needed alternative to Clyne and Moreno in the cup games next season.

Klopp explained that Flanagan’s passion and love for the club was a big reason for the extension.

Klopp said: “I was a bit involved in these negotiations. We are happy especially for Flanno – with a long-term injury it can be difficult and this is better for Flanno. There are other full-backs in the world, but not so many scousers. He is our boy and we are really happy. I am not involved in the numbers but of course, I was involved in the decision that we wanted to offer him a new contract and what kind of contract.”
