New Real Madrid signing Mesut Oezil has talked about the reasons why he left Werder Bremen for the Santiago Bernabeu as he says he is “hungry for success” in his career.
The German international was speaking in an interview that was published by German Bild today, in which Oezil spoke about finally signing for his dream club.
Oezil beamed: “I just wanted to come here. Playing for Real Madrid is a special honour, one that symbolises success. They are the biggest club in the world.
“Anyone who has played here wants to win titles, and I am hungry for success.”
Oezil claimed that there were many other offers on the table for him, as Werder Bremen were in talks with several European clubs, but the 21 year-old insisted that the Bernabeu was his only destination.
He claimed: “I talked to my advisors about other clubs, but in the end I was only interested in Real Madrid.”
Finally, Oezil spoke about teaming up with international teammate Sami Khedira, and about playing alongside some of the biggest names in the modern game.
He concluded: “Real Madrid have world class players like [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Kaka, but I have no fear of them. Sami [Khedira] has made things much easier for me, I talked to him before the transfer and he was delighted. I am glad he is there.”
