Thursday’s NAP of the Day with SportsLens experts on 28 October is Sapphire Lady in the 2m 2f mares chase at Clonmel (4:05). Trained by Willie Mullins, she looks a great value Bet of the Day at 7/2.

A daughter of Beneficial, Sapphire Lady drops back in trip today and that should suit her. The nine-year-old represents a stable with a great reputation for getting the best out of mares. At that 7/2 price, Sapphire Lady simply looks the best value over this distance. That is why our tipsters go with her as Bet of the Day today. Read on for more reasons why she rates the NAP of the Day for 28 October.

Why will Sapphire Lady win?
With two wins over fences at the intermediate trip of 2m 4f, Sapphire Lady can make use of her stamina here. Main market rival Sayce Gold is a big chasing type but her best form is over 3m. It’s as this point in the year that seems to be the right time to catch Sapphire Lady too, as she has two victories towards the end of October.
In the second of those, she belied a racecourse absence of 548 days and scored on her chasing bow at Thurles. Sapphire Lady made all the running, giving Gin On Lime 10lb and a nine-length beating. The runner-up has since won four times including a Grade 3 at Tipperary, so that advertises the form nicely. Dropping down to 2m in what turned out to be a hot race at Cork then saw Sapphire Lady finish fifth.
Something was amiss that day, though, and those home in front of her are all useful mares. Mount Ida, who won, went on to land the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival. The runner-up, Scarlet And Dove, came out and scored Grade 3 and Grade 2 successes. Heaven Help Us, back in fourth that day, went back over hurdles and plundered valuable handicaps at the Dublin Racing Festival and Cheltenham.
Sapphire Lady resumed winning ways at Punchestown in May and hasn’t trouble the judge in three subsequent starts over 2m 6f or further. Mullins has a healthy 26 per cent strike rate with his runners at Clonmel, however, and Jack Foley takes a valuable 5lb off with his claim. That makes Sapphire Lady our NAP of the Day and a £25 punt at her current price returns £112.50. Should she fail to win, then QuinnBet refunds the stake as a free bet.
