The Glancing Queen on her debut over fences is the SportsLens NAP of the Day for Wednesday, 10 November. Alan King’s mare goes in the Listed 2m 1f Yorton Stallions Mares’ Novices’ Chase at Bangor (1:00). She is the Bet of the Day because of tempting 11/8 odds.

A course winner over hurdles, The Glancing Queen was also best of the eight-runner field in that sphere. Prior to that, she was a top bumper performer winning Listed and graded events, but has the scope to tackle fences. That is one major reason why this mare rates the NAP of the Day today. Why will NAP of the Day The Glancing Queen win?
King has a fine 23 per cent strike rate with his runners at Bangor. Backing them blind over the years would have yielded £5.66 profit to a £1 level stake. In The Glancing Queen, King has a seven-year-old daughter of Jeremy who was a fine fifth in the Grade 2 Dawn Run Novices’ Hurdle for mares at the Cheltenham Festival back in March.
She was previously third in the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury behind Bravemansgame. In-between those major assignments, The Glancing Queen bolted up at this venue and then chased home Wilde About Oscar on desperately heavy ground in a Listed contest at Exeter. Beaten less than 12 lengths at Cheltenham, The Glancing Queen was home just behind subsequent Fairyhouse Grade 1 heroine Skyace.
Her form over hurdles is by far the best on offer for this contest. The Glancing Queen’s main market rivals include Dan Skelton runner Emma’s Joy, who has had more than 600 days off the track. Maskada may emerge as a bigger danger for Stuart Edmunds but that young mare lacks the obvious class of this favourite.
The Glancing Queen may only be officially 1lb clear of the field, but her mark of 131 looks very much like it underestimates her. If taking to fences, she can lay a marker down for the campaign to come. A £25 punt on The Glancing Queen returns almost £60 at her current price. If she doesn’t make a successful bow over fences, then QuinnBet refunds the losing stake as a free bet.
