Honduras will face Switzerland in Manuas in the last round of group matches, with both teams still with a chance of qualifying for the last 16.
Honduras, albeit, have a very small chance of proceeding from Group E, with Luis Fernando Suárez’s side needing to beat the 6th FIFA ranked Swiss on Wednesday evening, and hope France obliterate Ecuador (thereby devastating their goal difference) in order to make it through.
Switzerland can afford to draw tonight’s game, if the French beat Ecuador, but a win for Ottmar Hitzfeld’s men would mean the French need only avoid defeat to the South Americans in order to see the Swiss through.
Honduras Team News:
Possible XI (4-4-2) – Valladares, Beckeles, Bernardez, Figueroa, J Garcia, B Garcia, Palacios, Garrido, Espinoza, Bengtson, Costly
Wilson Palacios returns after a one-match suspension, and should take his place in the hear of the Honduras midfield.
Carlos Costly scored their one and so far only goal of the tournament against Ecuador last week, and he will looked to once more to breach the Swiss defence in pursuit of an unlikely last 16 berth.
Switzerland Team News:
Possible XI (4-2-3-1) – Benaglio, Lichsteiner, Djourou, Senderos, Rodriguez, Inler, Dzemalli, Mehmedi, Xhaka, Shaqiri, Drmic
Blerim Dzemaili scored after coming on during the 5-2 defeat to France, and he may have earned himself a starting berth in the Arena Amazônia.
Defender Steve von Bergen will play no further part in the World Cup, with the 31-year-old returning home after fracturing an eye socket.
Soccerlens prediction: Honduras 0-3 Switzerland
An easy Swiss win for me, albeit one that will see the Honduran players become progressively more and more aggressive. Ottmar Hitzfeld would do well to extract his star men from the fray if/when the match is effectively won.
