bvb_puffcheeks_hummels_628Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels has admitted that “maybe someday” he would join Manchester United.

The German international has been long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils’ incoming manager Louis van Gaal had made the centre-back top transfer target in the summer transfer window, according to the Manchester Evenings News.

However, Hummels has put an end to recent speculations and has confirmed that he will not join United this summer and has open the door for a future move.

“Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer. I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now,” Hummels said, as reported in The Telegraph.

United have only three first choice central defenders in the squad – Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. The departure of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic has left a void in the heart of the Reds Devils’ defence.

The former Barcelona and Bayern manager wants United chief executive Ed Woodward to sign Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen. The Telegraph reports the Belgium international has agreed a deal in principle to join the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Hummels was on the scoresheet during Germany’s 4-0 victory over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in their opening group stage fixture of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller was the star for Joachim Low’s side as his hat-trick helped German seal a comfortable win.

Hummels believes if his teammates could work as a unit, Germany could go long way in this ongoing event in Brazil.

“If we are concentrated and focused, both defensively and offensively, then we are a good team and that is the way we play,” the 25-year-old said.

“If we can do that in every game, we are going to have a good chance to be very successful. The thing is to work as a team. If we work defensively as we should, then our attacking play is so good that we have a chance to beat every team,” Dortmund stat added.
