Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has told German newspaper ‘Kicker’ that Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa would be welcomed back to Westfalensatdion with open arms.
The Japanese international, who made the switch to Old Trafford a couple of years ago from Jurgen Klopp’s side, has struggled to settle down in the Premier League. scoring only six times in 54 appearances for the Red Devils.
This season, the 25 year old has only started 12 games for United, and he has cut a sorry figure on the sidelines. Dortmund’s Mats Hummels feels the Yellow and Blacks must resign their former dazzling midfielder.
“We would take him with open arms, of course. Having an offensive line with Reus, Mkhitaryan and Kagawa would certainly be stylish. But I would not say anything about the other great players we have playing for us. The attacking midfield is probably the best part of our team without Shinji.”
Hummels himself has been linked with a move away from Dortmund in the summer, with Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly interested, but the 25 year old defender has quashed any such claims, and intends to stay with Jurgen Klopp’s side for as much time as possible.
“When I end my career, I don’t need to win eight championships, I’d rather have done something special. And that has certainly been the case here. That’s why I don’t waste any thoughts on leaving Dortmund at the moments. I would rather win one championship as a key player than four championships as a part-time player.”
What do you think? Should Kagawa shoot off back to Dortmund? Let me know in the comments below…
