Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has agreed to sign a three-year contract with BT Sports where the Welshman will take up ambassadorial role and feature as a guest pundit for the new BT Sport channels.
The 23-year-old already has an existing relationship with BT as he promoted its Life’s a Pitch website and starred in advertisements regrading availability of Sky Sports 1 and 2 on the BT Vision pay – TV platform in 2010.
Bale has been in stupendous form this season having scored 22 goals in all competitions. His heroics on the pitch have so far helped Spurs to remain in the fourth position on the Premier League table and secure Champions League football for next season.
Gareth Bale, who is fit for Wales’ World Cup qualifier against Croatia on Tuesday night, expressed his reaction as quoted in the BT official website:
“I am delighted to continue my relationship with BT by becoming a BT Ambassador.
“I feel honoured to join an exciting band of inspirational sporting figures, which has included Olympic heroes like the Brownlee brothers and Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock.
“A great deal has changed in my football career since my first partnership with BT, and I am happy to extend that relationship for the next three years.
“I am excited about the launch of BT Sport and I am happy to play my part in making it a big hit.”
He will be actively involved in promotional activities of BT Sport in UK as well as its live coverage of 38 Premier League games a season from August 2013.
Simon Green, the head of BT sport, expressed his joy while announcing the news, is also quoted in the official website:
“We are thrilled that Gareth has agreed to feature in our TV adverts and some BT Sport programmes, as well as becoming a BT Ambassador.
“He has developed into one of the most-admired and coveted players in the Barclays Premier League in recent years.
“He is also an inspiring role model for young sports fans, who remains dedicated and focused on developing his considerable talent.
We are delighted that we’ve managed to do what dozens of top football managers would like to do – sign Bale.”
BT not only has the rights to show 38 live games, 18 out of which are top picks but will show live top tier matches from Serie A in Italy, Ligue 1 in France, Brasileirao in Brazil and Major League Soccer in the USA.
Further BT will show live games for the FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, Europa League and the German Bundesliga after their acquisition of ESPN’s TV channels based in the UK and Ireland.
