Liverpool and AS Monaco are ready for a summer battle in signing Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko in the summer transfer window.
Both the Premier League club and the Ligue 1 outfit will return to the Champions League after a long absence from the Europe’s best club competition. And Liverpool and Monaco are looking to further strengthen the squad this summer.
Sissoko signed for Newcastle United from French club Toulouse in the January transfer window of 2013. Since his move to England, the midfielder put up a brilliant performance, despite the Tyneside club’s gloomy season.
According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, Liverpool and Monaco are interested in signing the Premier League midfielder this summer. The 24-year-old’s club form has earned him a call from Didier Deschamps for France squad for the 2014 World Cup, where they lost to Germany in the quarter finals.
Sissoko is a complete midfielder and both Liverpool and Monaco need to have a player in the heart of the midfield, especially when they look to challenge in domestic and at European stage.
Brendan Rodgers saw his side miss out on the Premier League title last season and will be keen on adding quality to the squad in the ongoing transfer window. Sissoko has already proved his worth in top flight competition in England.
A move for Sissoko will see the Merseyside club sign third midfielder this summer, after adding Adam Lallana and Emre Can to their midfield. The former Swansea manager is aware of Monaco’s interest and a chance to return to his homeland could tempt the French international sign for the Ligue 1 outfit.
